Get ready for Discover: Eggsplore — a vibrant new sculpture trail arriving in York and Haxby for Easter 2026.
This free public art event invites families and visitors to hunt for 30 unique handcrafted ceramic sculptures, each telling the story of a brilliant local independent business. Hidden inside shops and community venues, the Eggsplore York sculpture trail boosts footfall, encourages exploration, and brings fresh energy to our high streets.
Designed to be fun, inclusive, and accessible for all ages, Eggsplore is the perfect way to experience art beyond galleries this Easter.
Don’t miss the one-day Big Egg Hunt, with over 100 ceramic eggs waiting to be found and taken home. And thanks to filmmaker Davy Major, everyone can take part through our virtual York sculpture trail films, ensuring the magic reaches far beyond the streets.
Eggsplore — explore more, discover local, and see York’s sculpture trail in a whole new way.
A big thank-you to the Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund, supported by Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith and the York and York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority, for helping make this possible.
By hosting a bespoke ceramic sculpture inspired by your business, you help create a free family-friendly trail that brings new visitors to local high streets and encourages people to explore, linger and connect.
Each sculpture is handcrafted and tells the story of the people and values behind the business it lives in.

The ladybird has long been a cherished symbol of good luck. Across centuries and cultures, these bright, spotted creatures have been seen as bearers of good fortune — a sign that positivity and prosperity are near. Tradition says that when a ladybird lands on you, it brings as many years of luck as it has spots — a joyful reminder of life’s small yet powerful blessings.

The robin is a gentle symbol of love, remembrance, and comfort. “When a robin appears, a loved one is near” — a reminder that those we’ve lost are never truly gone. Its presence carries a message of connection, offering warmth and reassurance that our loved ones continue to watch over us.

The evil eye is a timeless symbol of protection and safety. Traditionally believed to ward off negative energy and misfortune, it serves as a powerful talisman that shields the wearer or home from harm. This sculpture embodies that protective spirit, offering a sense of security and peace wherever it is placed.

Penguins are symbols of resilience, devotion, and steadfast care. Known for enduring harsh conditions and nurturing their young with unwavering dedication, they remind us of the strength found in family bonds and perseverance. This sculpture celebrates their loyalty, patience, and the enduring spirit of excellent parents.

Elephants are revered for their wisdom, gentleness, and calm strength. With their thoughtful nature and deep sense of empathy, they remind us to move through life with patience, kindness, and understanding. This sculpture celebrates their serene spirit, offering a symbol of guidance, compassion, and mindful presence.

The Halloween pumpkin, or jack-o’-lantern, is a symbol of tradition, celebration, and playful spookiness. Originally used to ward off spirits, it has become an enduring emblem of creativity and festivity. This sculpture captures the charm and whimsy of Halloween, celebrating the joy of seasonal gatherings and shared stories.
